In Conversation

26 March 2012

Conversations are what artist Andreas Emenius describes as the motor that keeps his creative engine running. A cluster of memories, experiences, and spontaneous actions builds the foundation of his installations, paintings, and drawings. Mikkel Hess is one of Emenius’ favorite dialogue partners. The New York-based composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist is the founder of label Hess is More, and has composed music for several films, documentaries, plays, and dance productions. For The Avant/Garde Diaries, Emenius asked Hess to literally jump in at the deep end. The two took an icy bath in the frigid waters of the Helgoland coast in the hope of triggering their brain cells to react in different, perhaps avant-garde, ways.
