Creating a Need

9 December 2011

Makeup artist Thorsten Weiss has worked his way to the top. While he began as a hairdresser in Cologne, he now collaborates with internationally known photographers, designers, and artists like Jürgen Teller, Spike Jonze, Nick Knight, Björk, and Jonathan Meese. “It’s not a certain kind of makeup I’m applying,” he says. "What I’m trying to do is to bring simplicity into something complex.” From Thorsten’s point of view someone truly avant-garde is accessory designer Jacques le Corre, who passed away in 2010. The Paris-based designer was noted for his hat creations, especially the "Luxury Tramp Hat." What strikes Thorsten were the images he created. “His personal will was to create avant-garde in pictures,” he says. “Even after his death, he will always bring me to a point of thinking over things and trying to see things in a different light.”
