An Artful Disguise

29 November 2011

Zürich's Cabaret Voltaire is widedly regarded as the birthplace of Dada, and it is here where we met Philipp Meier, the historic performace space's current director. Although Philipp was initially opposed to its current incarnation, he eventually became intrigued by the contradiction between Dada's anarchistic leanings and the institutionalization of the club which spawned them. He accepted the club's directorship in 2003. He constantly considers what “Dada might be in the present day, and how Dadaists would make art today.” For The Avant/Garde Diaries,  he introduces the figure MacGhillie, a camouflage suit brought to life by artists, activists, and everyday people.
