With cutting-edge designs like the Myto chair and Chair One, German designer Konstantin Grcic has constantly pushed boundaries of what is commonly considered the norm. Meanwhile he is regarded one of the most influential contemporary designers working in the world. With his new armchair Avus for Italian manufacturer Plank, he will most likely polarize again. Grcic used unconventional materials and a technology that is common in the production of luggage. We visited Konstantin in his Munich studio and talked to him about the mechanisms of the mainstream versus the avant-garde and the importance of failure.
