Two Worlds Colliding

Xander Ferreira is an NYC-based artist from South Africa working in performance, music, installation, photography, and film in order to get at the multifarious roots of African culture. A dedicated collaborator as well, one of his most recent is with the Denmark-based Inoue Brothers. Founded in 2004 by brothers Satoru and Kiyoshi Inoue – both born and raised in Copenhagen – Inoue Brothers is a design and art studio based on a common love for Japanese sensibility and Scandinavian simplicity. They cleverly call their work “Scandinasian.” Ferreira and the Inoue Brothers work on a fashion project collaboration called “Ubuntu,” which attempts to create awareness of responsible production methods through quality and design. It’s not the easiest way of creation, but that’s what’s impressive to Ferreira. They work with South African artisans to bring their work to the world.
