Something out of Nothing

DJ, producer and label owner Helmut Geier alias Hell has been spinning records since the early 80s, which makes up more than half of his life. In order to keep “the machine going and fresh,” as he calls it, Hell is always searching for new talents to collaborate with. “Every year I step out of the system to watch myself. Just reflecting what has happened and figuring out how I’m going to change it for the next half year to keep it innovative and interesting for myself. So far it has worked for more than 30 years.” He found his latest discovery, performance artist Voin de Voin, on the internet. The Bulgaria-born former dancer chose to work independently in order to uncompromisingly pursue his artistic interest. Meanwhile his videos got him banned from Facebook and Youtube. Together with Hell we visited Voin’s studio in Berlin Kreuzberg, talked about the uncomfortable feeling of being alone on stage and their upcoming collaboration for a world tour.
