Susan Dimasi established her Melbourne-based fashion label MaterialByProduct (MBP) in 2004. For the last eight years, Susan’s work has been dedicated to the creation of garments as art to be worn on the body. With a deep appreciation for material, structure, and simplicity, her timeless designs work toward a vision of creating a new idea of beauty. “The garments are really thought about more as compositions in space than they are thought about as clothes," Susan says. "The experience of being immersed in them is probably more important than the experience of being looked at." Choreographer and dancer Shelley Lasica epitomizes this idea, and The Avant/Garde Diaries visited the two women together at a fitting in the MBP studio.
